It’s like running a business for social profit

Keith Robicheau – County Manager – County of Norfolk, Ontario

When Keith was only 24 years old he had the opportunity to be a leader, the CAO in Saint Andrews, New Brunswick. His Bachelor of Commerce, with a double major in Business Management and Accounting was quickly put to use, helping the small resort town run smoothly and envision its future.

“I learned the importance of policy development and planning and working with the business community. Together with the BIA, we had dreams of developing the waterfront. At the time, it seemed like pie in the sky. Today, when I go back, I can see the results – there’s a bustling, well-constructed wharf area full of people and kiosks for day adventures, like whale watching and kayaking.

Now a County Manager/CAO in rural Ontario, overseeing six departments, a budget of $175 million, and making life happen for a widespread population base of over 64,000, Keith loves where his career path has taken him.

“Community building becomes a passion. It involves doing so many things. It’s like running a business but we’re in that business for social profit.”

Who should consider a career in Municipal Administration?

“If you are someone who aspires to be a lifelong learner working in change-minded dynamic environment, I believe this is an important calling where you will work with talented people providing valuable services.”
